A Word From the Festival Director
There are so many talented people in my hometown, but in my opinion, it can be a bit of a challenge for actors, filmmakers, and film lovers to get the "community feel" that you can find in other places with an industry presence. Everyone pretty much works on projects in silos, and stay in their designated bubbles when promoting their events.
So, I decided that this festival would be an opportunity for me to cultivate that feeling for people of all backgrounds - maintaining a tradition that is most important, now more than ever with the rise of technology, separation, and social isolation which surfaced during the global pandemic in 2020.
This year's festival features projects that tell their own "Phoenix" story of trial, tribulation, and rebirth. Each selection contributes to a diverse showcase of cultural experiences that will give viewers different perspectives of a recurring theme: how everyday people rise from the ashes.
An added layer to this event is the gravity of the call for unity that this festival charges to the film community, in lieu of today's current political climate. Not only do the films inspire us to persevere through life's challenges, but there are "Phoenix" stories behind the scenes, too! Some filmmakers outside of the U.S. have strict limitations to participate in the festival due to recent international politics. Further, one film is a biopic of a real life Phoenix that has been a trailblazer for criminal justice reform since the 1990s; however, past conversations are still relevant today due to the reoccurring systemic themes. The "back story" of the art presented should ignite a social and moral responsibility within viewers to find a cause and work tirelessly to make radical change within their own community, and in alliance with others - both locally and abroad.
It is my hope that the festival grows to become a platform which liaises people of all races, ethnicities, and places of origin, to lift their voices, spark dialogue, and come together for peace and unity.

Unas palabras del director del festival
Hay muchísima gente talentosa en mi ciudad, pero en mi opinión, puede ser un poco difícil para actores, cineastas y amantes del cine lograr el "sentido de comunidad" que se encuentra en otros lugares con presencia en la industria. Todos trabajan en proyectos prácticamente aislados y se mantienen en sus burbujas designadas al promocionar sus eventos.
Entonces, decidí que este festival sería una oportunidad para cultivar ese sentimiento por personas de todos los orígenes, manteniendo una tradición que es más importante ahora que nunca con el auge de la tecnología, la separación y el aislamiento social que surgieron durante la pandemia mundial en 2020.
El festival de este año presenta proyectos que cuentan su propia historia de "Fénix" de pruebas, tribulaciones y renacimiento. Cada selección contribuye a una muestra diversa de experiencias culturales que brindarán a los espectadores diferentes perspectivas sobre un tema recurrente: cómo la gente común resurge de las cenizas.
Un elemento adicional de este evento es la importancia del llamado a la unidad que este festival hace a la comunidad cinematográfica, en vista del clima político actual. Las películas no solo nos inspiran a perseverar ante los desafíos de la vida, sino que también hay historias de "Phoenix" tras bambalinas. Algunos cineastas de fuera de Estados Unidos tienen estrictas restricciones para participar en el festival debido a la reciente política internacional. Además, una película es una película biográfica sobre un Phoenix de la vida real que ha sido pionero en la reforma de la justicia penal desde la década de 1990; sin embargo, las conversaciones del pasado siguen siendo relevantes hoy en día debido a los temas sistémicos recurrentes. La historia de fondo del arte presentado debe despertar en los espectadores una responsabilidad social y moral para encontrar una causa y trabajar incansablemente para generar un cambio radical dentro de su propia comunidad y en alianza con otros, tanto a nivel local como internacional.
Mi esperanza es que el festival crezca y se convierta en una plataforma que una a personas de todas las razas, etnias y lugares de origen para alzar sus voces, iniciar el diálogo y unirse por la paz y la unidad.
